Voters’ list torched in Toril;
Comelec orders probe
BY JESSIE L. CASALDA

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has requested the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) to conduct an investigation and order a manhunt on the suspects who tore down and burned the voters’ lists posted at a school in Toril, Davao City last March 16.

In an interview over dxDC-RMN Davao, provincial election supervisor lawyer Maria Febes Barlaan said the voters’ lists were posted at the San Miguel Elementary School in Barangay Lubogan, Toril.

The burned voters’ list was discovered on the morning of March 16.

Barlaan said anyone who destroys or burns voters’ lists or any Comelec paraphernalia will be charged with an election offense.

Barlaan said they have already coordinated with the DCPO for an investigation on the matter.

“We have to stop such acts as early as possible to prevent heavier election offenses from happening in the future,” she said.  “Baka sa susunod, hindi na voters list ang sunugin,” she added.

Barlaan said she has also directed the election officer assigned in the third district to reprint the voters’ list and post it in a more secure place.

“The early posting of the voters list is very important so that voters will be aware of their precinct number during election day to save time and effort in looking for their names,” Barlaan said.
